NameCheap is a low budget US hosting provider that also offers domain name registration.
In other words, NameCheap has everything you need to start a website.
I myself have been using NameCheap for this blog and some of my other sites for many years, so I have quite a bit of experience with it.
In this NameCheap review, I’ll discuss the pros and cons of NameCheap, briefly show you how to get started on your own, and finally give a final verdict.
Benefits of NameCheap
Reliable
NameCheap was founded in 2000, so it has over twenty years of experience in this industry. They clearly know what they are doing and you notice it in every way.
NameCheap is also accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ( ICANN ) , the organization responsible for the maintenance and procedures of Internet domains.
Easily accessible customer service
NameCheap has very accessible customer service. They are friendly and available 24/7.
This is one of the biggest advantages of NameCheap because if you are a total newbie to website building etc you will often get questions.
They also have a large database of useful articles, but if you really can’t figure it out, it’s easy to talk to someone who can help.
But unfortunately it is not always of the same quality, because there is also a downside (see below).
Cheap
NameCheap is a budget hosting provider, so they offer their services at a low price.
As I showed in How to start a blog with WordPress? you can already buy hosting for one year for € 15.62.
You even get a free domain with this, but unfortunately this is only possible for free TLDs (.site, .online,…). If you want a .com or a .eu you will have to pay a bit more, usually around € 10.

They have clear, detailed guides to walk you through everything, and if you have any issues you can always contact their customer service.
The clean layout and easy-to-follow process to get started with them drastically lowers the threshold for beginners.
NameCheap offers everything you need
At NameCheap, you can find more or less everything you would need for a website. Easily set up hosting, domain, WordPress and other apps, VPN, etc.
Personally, I find it very easy not to use different companies for all of these services as it increases the chances that you will let a domain expire or lose track of something.
Disadvantages of NameCheap
Sometimes lazy customer service
Despite the fact that easily accessible customer service is a plus, I have to mention that they quickly find the easiest solution and refer you to their database.
If you have a question on this or that, you will quickly get a link to an article which will usually help you further.
I understand of course that they want to conduct such a discussion as efficiently as possible, and that directing people with a clear question to this article is the quickest solution.
Not a huge downside, but still.
More expensive after the first year
NameCheap is one of the cheapest providers on the market… for the first year.
When this promotion is over, you pay market price or sometimes more.
Lots of negative reviews
On the internet there are a lot of negative reviews for NameCheap from people who are really not happy with it.
For example, NameCheap has a bad rating of 2.6 / 5 on Trustpilot ! It may be that a lot of these bad discussions are targeting the US servers because I personally haven’t had a lot of issues yet.
Hosting is sometimes slow
Since NameCheap is a budget hosting company, you will also get a slightly lower quality than, say, from BlueHost .
Your site usually loads a bit slower with NameCheap than with other providers, and this can really affect your website traffic.

I think NameCheap has many advantages, but also many disadvantages.
There are a lot of negative reviews so you should definitely take this into account.
Despite this, I think NameCheap is a good option for beginners, due to the low price in the first year and how easy it is to get started.
And they also give you 30 days to change your mind, so give them a try!
The further into your blogging career, the less attractive NameCheap becomes.
After all, you need less and less customer service because you know what you’re doing, you’re not necessarily looking for the cheapest solution, but the best, and then NameCheap starts to run out.
Final verdict of my Namecheap review:
NameCheap is a good choice for beginners, but if your income depends entirely on the quality of your site, there are better options.
